1973 - Former Left Banke keyboard player Michael Brown led his new group, Stories, back to the top of both the Cashbox best sellers chart and the Billboard Hot 100 with a song called "Brother Louie". The gritty lead vocal for the song was supplied by Ian Lloyd, who would later be heard on tracks by Billy Joel, Foreigner and Peter Frampton.

2015 - Iron Maiden unveiled a new Boeing 747-400 Jumbo Jet that will be taking them on tour around the world. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson was in training to fly the plane.

1994: Former Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and Jimmy Page reunited in London for a performance for MTV’s Unplugged series. Recordings from additional shows in Wales and Morocco were combined into a TV special titled UnLedded. The program was so well-received that it was later released in November as the album No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant UnLedded. The following February, Page and Plant took the show on the road with a world tour.

1969 Johnny Cash performed for the first time at the Minnesota State Fair. Cash was joined onstage by his backing band the Tennessee Three; opening acts were June Carter and the Carter Sisters, and the Statler Brothers. Cash played a 19-song set, including his big hits "Ring of Fire," "I Walk The Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues," plus the Shel Silverstein-penned novelty song, "A Boy Named Sue." The concert is significant in Minnesota State Fair history because it was the first time ever a Grandstand show had sold out to a standing-room-only crowd of more than 26,000 people. A story published in the Minneapolis Star the next day reported, “A fair publicist said there hadn’t been a night like it since Depression days when a car was given away at every concert” and that “police were called to the grandstand after a bookseller’s booth by a ticket cage was nearly destroyed by the surging crowd trying to get tickets for the show.” In addition to that first show 55 years ago, Johnny Cash would go on to perform at the Minnesota State Fair five more times: in 1970, 1976, 1978 and 1980, and on a double-bill with Willie Nelson in 1991.

1970: The third Isle of Wight Festival began with a concert lineup that included Kris Kristofferson, David Bromberg, Redbone, Rosalie Sorrels, Kathy Smith, Judas Jump, and Mighty Baby. Organized and promoted by local brothers Ron and Ray Foulk, the event also attracted acts such as Chicago, the Doors, Donovan, Free, the Moody Blues, Richie Havens, Leonard Cohen, John Sebastian, Procol Harum, Tony Joe White, Mungo Jerry, Terry Reid, Supertramp, Lighthouse, the Who, Joan Baez, Jethro Tull, Cactus, Sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Miles Davis, and Jimi Hendrix. Between 600,000 and 700,000 people were estimated to have traveled to the island that had a population of less than 100,000. Despite selling tickets beforehand, it soon became clear to organizers that the festival would not make a profit, so it was declared a “free festival.” The commercial failing of the endeavor ultimately ensured that it was the last of three consecutive rock concerts on the island and the last of its kind for over thirty years. Jimi Hendrix’s performance was his last live appearance in the UK.

2003 2003: Warren Zevon released his twelfth and final studio album, The Wind. Zevon began recording the album shortly after he was diagnosed with inoperable pleural mesothelioma and it was released just two weeks before his death in September. Guest musicians on the album include Ry Cooder, Tom Petty, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit, Dwight Yoakam, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, and Emmylou Harris.
