1946 Keith Moon (drummer for The Who) is born in Wembley, London, England.

1946 Rock singer Jim Sohns (of The Shadows Of Knight) is born in Chicago, Illinois. The band is known for their popular 1966 cover of Them's song "Gloria."

1951 Rock vocalist Jimi Jamison (of Survivor) is born in rural Mississippi. Also known for singing and co-writing the theme for the action series Baywatch.

1970 - Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground performed together for the last time at Max's Kansas City in New York. The band released a live recording of the night, Live at Max's Kansas City, and released it in 1972. The band's 1967 debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico, featured Lou Reed and gave them some of their biggest songs including "H.e.r.o.i.n.," "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "Venus in Furs."

1951 Danny Joe Brown (lead singer of Molly Hatchet) is born in Jacksonville, Florida.

2021 Charlie Watts, drummer for The Rolling Stones, passed away at the age of 80. In 2016, he was ranked 12th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest drummers of all time.

1980, Iron Maiden Whitesnake, Def Leppard, UFO, Gillan, Pat Travers Band and Rory Gallagher all appeared at the 20th National Rock Festival Reading Rock 80, England.

2001, Travis, Eminem, Eels, Green Day, Marilyn Manson, Supergrass, PJ Harvey, Manic Street Preachers, Weezer, Iggy Pop, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Cult, Frank Black, The Strokes, Supergrass, Ash, Stephen Malkmus and Mercury Rev all appeared at the Carling Weekend Reading / Leeds festival. A three day ticket cost £80 ($128).

1981 - The Rolling Stones released Tattoo You. The big hit from the album was "Start Me Up," which they first recorded with a reggae rhythm in 1977. That version was scrapped, but they rocked it up for Tattoo You with better results.

1989 - The Who perform a special 20th anniversary charity concert of their rock opera Tommy at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, featuring guests Elton John (as the Pinball Wizard), Patti LaBelle (as the Acid Queen), Steve Winwood (as the Hawker), Phil Collins (as Uncle Ernie), and Billy Idol (as Cousin Kevin).
