1947 Don Henley of the Eagles is born in Gilmer, Texas.

1973 Daniel Jones (instrumentalist of Savage Garden) is born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, but will be raised in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

1965 - Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, and Bill Wyman from The Rolling Stones were each fined £5 at East Ham Magistrates Court, London, after being found guilty of "insulting behavior" at a Romford Road service station. Charges stemmed from an incident in which all three had urinated against a wall after the service station attendant had refused them the use of the facilities.

2024 British blues pioneer John Mayall died at his California home at the age of 90. Over the years his band, The Bluesbreakers included some of the world's most prolific musicians, including Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Harvey Mandel and John McVie.

1994 The International Astronomical Union named an asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter after Frank Zappa who had died the previous December.

2011 Amy Winehouse was found dead at her north London home, she was 27. A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 27-year-old woman had died in Camden and that the cause of death was as yet unexplained.London Ambulance Service said it had been called to the flat at 1554 BST and sent two vehicles but the woman died.The troubled singer had a long battle with drink and drugs which overshadowed her recent musical career.

1948 John Hall (founder of Orleans) is born in Baltimore, Maryland, but grows up in Elmira, New York.

1950 Blair Thornton (guitarist for Bachman-Turner Overdrive) is born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

1964 Nick Menza (drummer for Megadeth) is born in Munich, Germany. He is the son of jazz saxophonist Don Menza.

1965 Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is born Saul Hudson in Hampstead, London, England. He moves to Los Angeles in 1976.

1977 Foreigner releases "Cold As Ice."

1980 Grateful Dead keyboardist Keith Godchaux, 32, dies of head injuries sustained in a car accident two days earlier. He had been on the way home from his birthday party at the time of the crash.

2011 Dan Peek, a founding member of the Soft Rock trio America died in his sleep at the age of 60. The group notched eight Top 40 hits in the US between 1971 and 1975, including "Sister Golden Hair", "Ventura Highway", "Tin Man", "Daisy Jane" and Peek's own composition "Lonely People"
