Mitchell had been working with Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames when in 1966 he was invited to audition for a new band being formed to back Jimi Hendrix. In December 1968, Mitchell played with the Dirty Mac, an all-star band assembled for The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus (with John Lennon, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards).

Stan Lee, Marvel comics Superhero creator (Spider-Man, Iron Man and X-Men, to name a few), dies at age 95. Not surprisingly, Rock musicians express their appreciation for Lee’s artistry. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett writes, “Stan Lee was a visionary and a pioneer. I owe a lot to him for personally shaping my childhood fantasy worlds, my appreciation for art on all levels, & for teaching me humanness and humility through his wonderfully insightful stories.” Rob Zombie adds, “Marvel comics was one of the best things I remember about being a kid. Thanks for everything. What would we have done without you?” Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) simply says, “Thank you for making me believe in heroes.” 2018
