After seeing Hot Tub Time Machine, where they jokingly made the song "Let's Get It Started" a hit before it's time. The clip reminded me of how much I love the group and the people who "get it" have a great time with the music. It's universal, it's fun, it's purposely dumb and it's genius in it's genre!
Here's the clip:
I LOVE this group and no matter how much criticism they get I always find it more laughable that a group all about fun and a good time gets serious critiques. Seriously who analyzes how dumb the lyrics are of a song titled
"My Humps"! Hello, it POP music! Not Shakespeare folks and the more ridiculous and over the top it is the more it fits what a classic pop song should be! The Black Eyed Peas are the masters of modern dance pop IMO! Their music is contagious and has the most pure crazy spirit in any group I've seen. Looking back at the original "Let's Get it Started" it's clear everyone in it has a contribution and they are all actually enjoying what they are making. I noticed a lot of small details and this is the most layered pop group since New Radicals IMO.
Let's Get It Started
I like every album more and more since they acquired the final piece "Fergie". I don't feel she's the whole group by any means but I'm sorry, I could do without their social commentary on the first two albums. It was dry as toast and artist like A Tribe Called Quest did it better! Will I Am has a mind for sound and a crazy enthusiasm that suits the pop vibe better. Here are the three milestone albums.
Here are my favorite tracks:
Anxiety Ft. Pap Roach
Where Is The Love?
Let's Get Retarded
(I thought it was stupid to change the word from started to retarded)
Pump It
They Don't Want Music Ft. James Brown
My Humps
(don't give two shits how hated it is, it's fun as hell and pop genius)
My favorite material is definitely off of the new album! Best dance floor music past 2,000 period:
You know it's been a while since I've pumped out any Black Eyed Peas but I do have an measurable liking for good Hip-Hop and will never downplay my guilty pleasure for these guys! Good to see that this thread has collected a lot of fun members in the fever expected and unexpected and now has one more in the mix!
Not a fan of the Black Eyed Peas, but I like Fergie. I had been saying for years that she had a great voice that would be great for rock. Her collaboration proved me right. Wish she'd do more rock!
