Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is the subject of an upcoming documentary that’s set for release on Nov. 6.

The Ritchie Blackmore Story traces the long and winding road of the guitar legend — from his early days as a session player (with legendary producer Joe Meek) and his early ’60s combo the Outlaws up through his years guiding one of hard rock’s finest bands, Deep Purple, and into his recent work with Blackmore’s Night.

“Ritchie was a figure of mystery and wonder,” says Queen guitarist Brian May in a trailer for the film, which you can watch above. “I think he will be remembered as somebody wild and untamed.” A who’s-who list of rockers were interviewed for the film, including Glenn Hughes, Lars Ulrich, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, the late Jon Lord, David Coverdale, Gene Simmons, Joe Lynn Turner, Steve Vai, Graham Bonnet and Ian Anderson. Blackmore himself is also interviewed throughout.

The documentary will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. In addition, there will be a deluxe edition that includes a second DVD, Rainbow Live In Tokyo, and two CDs. The deluxe package will be housed in a 60-page 12” x 12” hardback photo book.

Rainbow Live In Tokyo marks the first official release of a 1984 concert at Tokyo’s famous Budokan. It was last Rainbow concert before Blackmore and bassist Roger Glover reformed Deep Purple.
