Surprised not to see any mention of Kate Bush (too English, or niche?) or John Fogerty (with CCR).
I know! - i should come up with a list - too much hard work right now (deciding between personal choice and actually good vocalist).

The start of the thread mentioned 'singers' - there's no way Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Springsteen and others can be called good singers (as opposed to Freddie Mercury, Billy Joel and others). So maybe we're talking 'vocalist' (Dylan and Waits would be up at the top). Just being pedantic, but there's a difference - and maybe trying to narrow this down a bit. There's tonnes of good singers who, arguably, aren't good 'vocalisThere's also that mix up between singer and songwriter - not sure Elvis has appeared but his voice / singing is up with the best (when on form). Weirdly (albeit, understandably), Art Garfunkel doesn't appear but, together with Simon's songwriting, they came up with some of the best songs ever.
