Not a bad list so far...but I can already tell I won't be impressed when they get to the top 20...

Either I have come across this list before, or "We're An American Band" always seems to barely hang on at the tail end of every "Greatest..." list for classic rock songs that I've ever seen.

Oh, and "Jack & Diane"... meh!

I probably won't be as unimpressed with the top 20 as much as I'll be unsurprised. I mean, what do you think is going to be up there, "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Stairway...", "Free Bird", "Like A Rolling Stone", "Imagine", whatever Beatles song they feel like going with, "Satisfaction", "Won't Get Fooled Again", and all of the other usual heavy hitters? Pretty standard stuff really.
There have been countless numbers of these kinds of lists done over the years (20+ or so) and the ass end is always the most interesting part because there is still some surprise to it. Once we get to the top half of this list it's going to be like watching a movie that you already know the ending of or hearing a joke you can already figure out the punchline to.....only it'll last for about two weeks.

Basically, what I'm saying is that I won't be spitting out my morning coffee with surprise while reading this countdown....and that's not just because I don't drink coffee.

^^Yes you've surrounded the way I feel completely Cosmic.

There are quite a few listed already that would be Way higher on my list...so as you said the usual "vanilla" suspects will be crowding the top 30 no doubt.

Few surprises so far. I would never expect to see Nazareth's 'Hair of the Dog' and ELO's 'Don't Bring Me Down'. I like the fact it is only one song per band being included. Which means there is more space for other bands and I see Mountain already there, which is even higher than Steppenwolf. So far so good.

Pretty good list but I can't stand The Pretenders so they wouldn't be on my list.Low Rider is okay but wouldn't make my top 200 and neither would Jack and Diane.
I would probably have Molly Hatchet and 38 Special higher, but then again I love Southern Rock.

Yeah, but then one has to wonder which song will be used for each band. Probably the most everplayed/overrated ones naturally. Dare to take a guess as to Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple's selections?
